This page explains, in plain terms, how we source quotes, how we decide what to publish, and how we handle mistakes.
Our sourcing standard
Every quote we publish is checked against a source before it goes on the site. In order of preference, we look for:
- Primary footage or audio — a press conference, interview, documentary, or broadcast where Kobe Bryant is speaking directly.
- Print sources — books (including his own writing), authorized biographies, and long-form print interviews.
- Reputable secondary reporting — established sports outlets that cite a specific, checkable original source.
We avoid pulling quotes from unsourced image graphics, quote-aggregator sites with no citations, or social media posts with no link back to an original appearance.
How we label uncertainty
Not every widely shared quote can be traced with full confidence. When we can’t confirm an original source after reasonable effort, we say so on the page rather than presenting it as fact. You’ll typically see this framed as “commonly attributed to” rather than stated as a confirmed, sourced quote.
Context matters
A quote pulled out of context can mean something very different from what was originally said. Where it’s relevant, we try to note what Kobe Bryant was responding to, the setting, and roughly when it was said, rather than presenting a bare line with no framing.
Corrections process
- A reader, or our own research team, flags a quote as potentially wrong, mistranslated, or out of context.
- We attempt to re-verify the quote against original source material.
- If the quote can’t be verified, we either relabel it as commonly attributed, add context, or remove it entirely.
- Significant corrections are reflected in the page’s “last updated” date.

What we don’t do
- We don’t invent quotes or paraphrase Kobe Bryant’s words and present them as direct quotes.
- We don’t accept payment in exchange for adding, removing, or altering a quote’s context.
- We don’t present our fan commentary as if it were something Kobe Bryant said.
